Offer discount codes on your booking page

Create coupon codes for percent or dollar discounts, set dates, a minimum order and a use limit, and see how customers apply them.

A coupon is a code customers type on your booking page to take money off their rentals. Coupons live in the Coupons card on the Booking Page settings. See Set up your booking page for the rest of that page.

What a coupon discounts

A coupon takes money off the rentals only. Delivery fees are not discounted, and sales tax is worked out on what is left after the discount plus delivery. The discount never goes below $0.

The booking page's own Minimum order ($) is checked first, on the price before any discount. A coupon can't be used to get under it.

Create a coupon

  1. In the Coupons card, select New coupon.
  2. Enter a Code: 3 to 30 letters, numbers, dashes or underscores. Customers can type it in any case. You can't change the code after it is created.
  3. Pick a Type, Percent off (a whole number from 1 to 100) or Dollars off (an amount with at most two decimals), and enter the Percent or Amount ($).
  4. Optional limits:
    • Minimum order ($): the rentals total the customer needs before the code works.
    • Use limit: how many bookings can use the code in total. Leave blank for unlimited.
    • Start date and End date: both days are included, in your time zone.
  5. Leave Active on, then select Save coupon.

Each coupon shows in the table with its Discount, Min, Dates, Uses (with the limit, like 3 / 10) and Status:

  • Active: customers can use it now.
  • Scheduled: the start date hasn't come yet.
  • Expired: the end date has passed.
  • Used up: it has reached its use limit.
  • Off: you turned it off.

Edit, turn off or delete

  • Edit changes the amount, limits, dates and Active switch.
  • Turn off stops customers using a code without removing it. Turn on brings it back.
  • Delete removes a coupon nobody has used, after you confirm. A coupon that has been used can't be deleted, because your orders refer to it. Use Turn off instead.

What customers see

On the review step, under the order summary, the customer selects Have a code?, types the code and selects Apply. The price updates with a Discount row and a lower total, and the code shows as applied with a Remove link. If the code can't be used they see why, for example that it has expired or hasn't started, that their order is under the minimum, that it has been fully used, or that it isn't valid. A code that is typed with extra spaces or in lowercase still works.

The code is checked again when they pay. If it stopped working in the meantime (it expired, or the last use went), the code is removed, the total is updated, and the customer sees the new price before paying. The discount also appears as Discount (CODE) in the customer's confirmation email, and the order in Events records the code.

How uses are counted

  • A use is counted when the booking is confirmed, which means the payment went through. A customer who starts a checkout and never pays doesn't use up a code.
  • Each customer email can use a code once. Trying a second time shows "That code has already been used with this email."
  • If two customers pay for the last use at nearly the same moment, both bookings stay confirmed because they paid. The use count can go past the limit, and an order that went over it may carry a note.
  • A full refund of an order, or a lost dispute, gives the use back, so the code can be used again. A partial refund doesn't.

Try it on the demo

The public demo has a sample code, PARTY10, for 10% off. The demo checks the code but never records a use.
